Biography
Jewel was born to printer Leslie George Stewart Cooper and housemaid Ivy Lillian Evangeline nee Nash at Greymouth. She was a nurse, social worker, probation officer, electoral agent and civil celebrant. In 1953 she married timber company manager James Peter Frederik Thompson.
