Biography
Norman Kirk was born in Waimate, South Canterbury in 1923.
Kirk was a member of the New Zealand Labour Party from 1943 until his death in 1974. He was the 29th Prime Minister of New Zealand from 1972-1974. He died suddenly of a pulmonary embolism in 1974 whilst still holding office. Norman Kirk was buried in Waimate, his birthplace.
