Biography

Hilda Jane Gapes was born in Christchurch and worked as nursemaide for Dr. Percival Clennell Fenwick and his wife Ellen. She married William John Williamson, a carpenter, in 1911 and daughter Daisy Margaret Greenaway. Hilda's mother Alice Gapes (née Swindell) appears in Unsung heroines, by Richard L.N. Greenaway.
