Biography
James Kirkwood Worrall was a plumber from Linwood and a member of the Canterbury Trades and Labour Council. He married Marion Susanna Barns in 1921. His father was H. Worrall, ex-president of the Trades and Labour Council. James Worrall was in solitary confinement at Fort Jervious, Ripapa Island for objecting to the pre-World War I compulsory military training law. He was arrested as a defaulter under the Military Service Act.

Four letters written to his family on 1 & 2 July 1913 while James Worrall was in solitary confinement at Fort Jervious, Ripapa Island for objecting to the pre-World War I compulsory military training law. He describes the horrible conditions at the Fort as well as the court trial he and several others were subjected to.
