Biography
Frank Ward arrived in Italy on 8th January 1944 on board the Highland Brigade. He was transferred to the 24th Battalion (Northern Infantry) 6th Infantry Brigade and was in the Battle for Monte Cassino. He was married to Josephine Ward.

Scope and Contents
The papers of Francis George Alysius Ward includes an original letter handwritten in pencil. The letter, written while he was in hospital, describes his experiences before and during the Battle for Monte Cassino.
