Biography

Thomas Jackson Hughes was a pre-Adamite settler. He was transported to Wollongong, Australia on the ship America in 1829. Freed on 25 August 1835, Hughes had settled in New Zealand with his family by the 1840s. He cut timber in Robinson's Bay and Pigeon Bay and lived in Akaroa with his family. The timber was used for early homes in Christchurch. Hughes was killed in a logging accident in 1865.
