Series 3: Reference Department/Aotearoa New Zealand Room reference and archives correspondence 1972 - 2008, 1969 - 2008
Scope and Contents
A classifiied file system containing correspondence to and from Aotearoa/New Zealand Collection team. In its developed stage the file classification uses a modified annual single number system in which enquiries/correspondence are filed by type each year under a simple numbered system: 1 is General correspondence; 2 is General reference correspondence, 3 is Genealogical reference correspondence; and 4 is Archives correspondence about the collection and its accessions. Within each annual file the correspondence is numbered in chronoligical order and often identified by a numerical list. The system was modified over the years, largely because of the growing dominance of genealogical correspondence. A blanket restriction of 100 years has been placed on all items in the series.
