Scope and Contents

Records of the Canterbury Orchestra Trust operations and activities including programmes and event tickets, correspondence, minutes, press clippings, financial records and photographs relating to concerts.

The programmes contain forewords by Dame Ngaio Marsh, the orchestra's patron. The 6 programmes for the 1977-78 season (box 15) include programme notes by Professor Vernon Griffiths.

Existence: 1975 - 1979 The Canterbury Orchestra was formed in 1975 with William Southgate as its musical director. He was succeeded in the same year by Dobbs Franks. The orchestra’s patron was Dame Ngaio Marsh, The Orchestra was disbanded in early 1979.
