Canterbury Progress League records
Scope and Contents
The records of the Canterbury Progress League include minutes, correspondence, reports, press clippings and financial records. Extensive papers and photographs relate to the Christchurch Pan Pacific Arts Festival. Also includes papers relating to events and projects the league was involved in including Antarctic Week, Christchurch International Boat and Outdoors Exhibition, Carnival Week, Environment Week and other conferences.
Other papers include those relating to locations such as airports, Arthurs Pass, buildings in Christchurch and Canterbury, Hanmer Springs, Cragieburn Forest Park and other locations in Christchurch and in wider Canterbury. Also includes minutes and financial records on the Canterbury Economic Survey, The South Island Beckons campaign 1969, tourism and immigration, Commonwealth Games Committee and the Summit Road Society.

Biographical / Historical
Existence: April 1918 - June 1979 The Canterbury Progress League was established in April 1918 to promote the development and advance the interests of Canterbury. It wound up its operations in June 1979. Many of its functions were then taken over by the Canterbury Promotion Council.
