Lyttelton fire papers
Scope and Contents
Photocopies of correspondence and newspaper articles relating to the Lyttelton Fire of 24 October 1870. Includes a letter from Superintendent and Chief Fire Inspector, W. Harris, to the Mayor, describing what was done on the night of the fire, and letter from G. Heyder to the Christchurch Fire Brigade Committee, quoting price for silver commemorative medals for the fire fighters.
The newspaper articles describe the fire and call for and acknowledge subscriptions for the relief of those affected.
