Thomas's Census of Moriori and Māori with rules for the administration of justice (1864), William Bauche's Morioris of the Chathams (1922), Ernst Dieffenbach's An account of the Chatham Islands (1840), Alexander Shand's The occupation of the Chatham Islands by the Maoris in 1835 (1892), Frederick Hunt's Twenty-five years' experience in New Zealand and the Chatham Islands (1866), an extract from Bishop Selwyn's diary (1848) and Rys Richards' American whaling on the Chatham grounds (1971).
