Scope and Contents

Interviews by W.J. Walter in the 1930s with people of the Marshland area of their memories of life in the area during the 19th Century.

Includes a set of typescripts of the interviews by Mairehau High School students in the 1960s and 1970s; an item from The Sun; and an incomplete copy of H.W. Hughes' thesis on Marshland (1939).

The material in this collection was used for a section on Marshland for J.P. Morrison's Evolution of a city and also for Terry McGovern's article on Marshland in The Press, 27 Sept. 1975.
