Custodial History
These personal records have almost had as varied a career as that of Ell himself. Most were received from the official assignee of Ell's estate about 1935, but no start on sorting or accessioning these records was made until the seven volumes of letter books were catalogued, 29 August 1966.
On 19 December 1962 Canterbury Public Library received from the Christchurch Council the Summit Road scrapbook of the Port Hills-Akaroa Summit Road Public trust which Ell founded in July 1925 and was formerly wound up in 1944, containing newspaper clippings, photographs and correspondence relating to the Summit Road from 1906-1954.
