Existence 1909 - 1998 The Canterbury Park Trotting Club started off as the Plumpton Park Racing Club, the Canterbury Times advertising the "inaugural" meeting on March 11, 1884. It was based at a 74 acre course at Sockburn. The name of the club evolved over the years changing to Canterbury Park Trotting Club in October 1909. When the Metropolitan Club began developing land in Riccarton, Canterbury Park Trotting club purchased their lease and buildings in Addington, the club holding its first meeting at Addington at New Year in 1923. The Metropolitan Club did not move and became a tenant of CPTC. In 1952 Addington Raceway Ltd took over the management of the raceway. The NZMTC and CPTC amalgamated with New Brighton (NBTC) club, forming NZMTC, and purchased the leased Addington land in 1998.
