Scope and Contents

Manuscript of stories and poems for children, written in a coverless 1960 diary, with some border illustrations, by the author Margaret Mahy.

These stories and poems were later published either as picture books or in anthologies. Includes two biographical articles about the author, one from the New Zealand woman's weekly, Nov. 15 1976, and the other from a woman's diary.

The diary includes lists of authors and titles, on the last 3 pages.

Children's short stories incude typescript of The haunting; Uncorrected proofs of The catalogue of the universe, together with American amended text; Copy-edited and corrected version of The catalogue of the universe (incomplete); Various typed and hand-corrected version of The catalogue of the universe; Chez Jean-Paul! or breakfast with Sartre; Copy-edited and corrected typescript of My mysterious world; Uncorrected page proofs of Raging robots & unruly uncles; Handwritten script for the television programme and Cuckooland.

Also includes various articles, reviews and cuttings about Margaret Mahy and/or her books, including a small collection of her writings from the National Library and a report of a visit she made to England and the United States in 1973.
