Scope and Contents
Letter addressed to Mr O'Reilly, Chief Librarian of Canterbury Public Library, requesting permission to set up a table to gather signatures for a petition urging the New Zealand government to establish a southern hemisphere zone free of stockpiling, testing and use of nuclear weapons. It was written by Mary Woodward, Secretary of the Christchurch Branch of the New Zealand Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament.
Also includes copies of two newsletters produced by the New Zealand Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament.

Biographical / Historical
The Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (N.Z.) was established in 1958 with it's headquarters largely based in Christchurch. The group existed to promote world nuclear disarmament, for a nuclear free zone in the South Pacific and for the adoption of a Non aligned foreign policy.
