Photocopied typescript account of the arrival and settlement in New Zealand of boatmen from Deal, Kent written by Peter Pascall.
The Deal Boatmen had lost their jobs guiding ships past the treacherous Goodwin Sands off Kent in England. Six families were granted free passage to New Zealand who are featured in this typescript account including Wilds, Morris, Bowbyes, Roberts, Clayson and Bowles.
Also includes photocopies of maps of Southern England and of the South Island and a typescript copy of a letter written by John Jones Bowles to his friend Mr. Stanton in England dated 1859.
