Biographical / Historical
Alan Brassington was a Christchurch solicitor who was among a deputation that appealed to the Christchurch City Council to purchase Frances Hodgkins' painting "The Pleasure Garden". The work was rejected but was eventually bought by a group of private subscribers and given to the Robert McDougall Art Gallery in 1951. This archive is Brassington's record of these events which became known as "The Pleasure Garden Incident".
