Letters, photographs and clippings relating to the purchase of 'The Pleasure Garden' by Frances Hodgkins.
Margaret Frankel was a Christchurch painter and potter who led the campaign to purchase "The Pleasure Garden" a painting by Frances Hodgkins for the city of Christchurch. The work was initally rejected but was eventually bought by a group of private subscribers, organised by Margaret Frankel, and given to the Robert McDougall Art Gallery in 1951. This archive is Frankel's record of these events which became known as "The Pleasure Garden Incident".
