Historical context
The Manchester Civc Theatre was created Christchurch City Council bought the burnt out shell of His Majesty's Theatre in 1920 and rebuilt buildings including the Municipal Concert Hall which became the Civic Theatre in 1928 as well as the Civic in 1924. The Civic became the new offices of Christchurch City Council in 1924, moving Council offices from the Municipal Chambers building on the corner of Oxford Terrace and Worcester Street.

These plans were originally listed with a c.1900 date. When new information emerged about the date of these plans, this record was updated but the decision was made not to move this record to reflect chronological order. All new information relating to the history of this building has been added as a historical note.
