Scope and Contents
Records relating to the administration and management of Christchurch cemeteries. Records include burial/interment registers, sexton's registers, registers of purchased graves, Cemetery Board administrative and financial records, plot registers and plot plans.
Also includes some records relating to the amalgamation of services under Christchurch City Council.

Arrangement
The records in this series have been arranged by Cemetery in the order in which they opened. Within each sub-series the records have been arranged according to record type in so far as they can be identified.
Accruals
There are known gaps within some record types within this sequence and more may be added as they are identified.
Cemeteries Database and Recordkeeping System (Post‑2011)
From 2011 onwards, the former paper-based system was replaced by a central digital administrative system maintained by Christchurch City Council. The Cemeteries Database includes transcribed entries from physical records held in Council Archives, as well as from church records. The database is updated monthly and serves as the primary central record of burials for Christchurch City Council. A link to the database is available in the External Documents section.
