Scope and Contents

Papers of Dame Anna Crighton largely relating to her involvement in the curation of the Women in the Council Chamber exhibition in 2006. The papers also relate to her involvement with celebrating women's suffrage including attending and presenting at events and involvement with the Kate Sheppard Memorial in 1993.

Includes papers relating to the Women in the Council Chamber exhibition in 2006, held at Our City, includes gathered research into former and current female Christchurch City Council Councillors including several copies of printed reports and parts of publications used to support the research of the exhibition. Includes correspondence and notes relating to the planning of the exhibition including the loan of Christchurch City Council furniture, specifically the Mayoral Chair, for the exhibition. Also includes some correspondence relating to the Mayoral Chain. Promotional materials relating to the exhibition includes newspaper clippings and advertising posters.

Copies of the Mayoral declarations for Vicki Buck and Anna Crighton. Includes a letter sent to Anna Crighton from Councillor Barbara Stewart outlining her achievements over the years as a Fendalton Ward Christchurch City Councillor.

Additional printed email correspondence relates to Anna Crighton being invited to speak and attend events relating to women's suffrage and the role of women at Christchurch City Council. Copies of annotated speeches given at various events are also included.

Some of the material relates to a set of portraits of female Christchurch City Council Councillors which were hung in the Camellia Room at the Christchurch City Council Tuam Street offices. Includes correspondence relating to these including plans to rehang the portraits in the new Hereford Street Civic Offices.

Includes an invite list to an event to mark Women's Suffrage Day in 2006.

Two boxes of slides include those of the construction of the Kate Sheppard Memorial in 1993 as well as copies of the site plan for the Memorial. Also includes 2 CD's which include audio and video content curated as part of the Women in the Council Chamber exhibition.

3 volumes of records relating to the Hagley-Ferrymead Community Board Heritage Awards of which Anna Crighton was chariperson in her role as councillor for Hagley-Ferrymead. Includes details of category winners from 1997-2005 including photographs and summaries of the recipients. Also includes speeches and other records relating to the Anna Crighton Award for Services to Heritage 1997-2007. In 2010 a separate Heritage Trust was established.

3 files of papers relating to the work Anna Crighton was involved in to stop the demolition of the Sunnyside Hospital/Hillmorton Hospital Administration building and have it added to the Council heritage register. Includes reports, correspondence as well as Council and Spreydon/Heathcote Community Board minutes and agendas 2006-2011.

1 box of papers relating to the Canterbury Earthquake Heritage Buildings Fund Trust to which Anna Crighton was Chairman. Christchurch City Council provided administrative and financial support to this Fund Trust. Includes meetings held by Christchurch City Council alongside other stakeholders, reports relating to the fund, information relating to buildings that were recipients of the Fund, funding statements and financial records.
