Loss of the Marlborough, letters
Carbon copies of typed transcripts of original letters concerning the possible fate of the Marlborough.
The Marlborough left Lyttelton in January 1890, bound for London with a cargo of wool and frozen meat. A passing ship saw her two days out, but she was neither seen nor heard of again, though, as these letters show, there are various accounts of her possible fate.
Louis Albert Elerig letters
The letters of Louis Albert Elerig includes those recording his experiences in the fires on the steamer Wairarapa near Gisborne and at the Albion Hotel in Invercargill. The Gisborne letter is to his wife and family, and the Invercargill letter is to his daughter Velia. Also includes copies of Southland Times articles about the hotel fire, 1888.
Louis Morrell papers
The papers of Louis Morrell includes Loose leaf photocopies of his diary. Nearly every entry in the diary mentions the number of hours Morrell spent practicing with Mr. Spensley's Band at the Lyceum in Manchester Street and the Sydenham Band. A note on the first page of this copy reads "Canterbury diary of Louis Morrell before his return to the Hokianga settlement of Waimamaku".
Also includes a Christchurch Tramway Company timetable for April 1895.

The diaries of Lucy Jane Augusta Hogg briefly record social, family and school events, letters written and received, and financial matters.
The 1903 diary contains an Australian shipboard menu, 1900, under Lucy Hogg's maiden name, Miss Hudspeth.
Also included is a volume of mathematical jottings, and 2 volumes of press cuttings of articles on astronomy written by Lucy's husband, Evelyn Hogg, for The Press. Other astronomical papers are also included.
