The Christchurch Star newspaper was a local daily paper which ran from 1868-1990 and since then has run as a free paper, currently produced once a week.

One portrait and six action shots of Carl Dickel who played cricket for East Shirley and Canterbury, and basketball for Old Boys. Shots of Dickel playing cricket include a 1975 game against Riccarton, a 1976 game against Old Collegians, and a 1979 game against St Albans. Graeme Smith, a St Albans player, is also seen. All were at Burwood Park. One of the basketball shots is from a 1975 match against Mairehau. Another is from a workout at Mairehau High School.
