Biography
The Christchurch Star newspaper was a local daily paper which ran from 1868-1990 and since then has run as a free paper, currently produced once a week.

Draughts: General, 1959-1990
Various photographs showing Draughts players, some photographs show indidivduals mid game, including in a game of giant, outdoor draughts. Indidivudals posed holding winning trophies, and portrait photographs of winning draught players. Indidivduals identified include; John Dowie, Kerry Hibbard, Mr C. Johnstone, Albert Hrstich, Scotty Johnstone, S.G. Smith, Jack Williams.

Photographs show sports reporter Iona Condie at various angles and stages during the jump/ fall at Kawarau bridge, Queenstown. Coloured photograph shows Victoria Pardy-Halliday infront of helicopter as she breaks world record bungy jump from helicopter in Wanganui.

The Christchurch Star collection
The collection of The Christchurch Star includes photographic prints, negatives and newspaper clippings mostly covering local stories including community events, local people, places and sporting events from the 1960s to the 1990s. There is some additional historic material dating from c.1850 which was collected and used by the Star.
The collection is arranged by subject and includes a New Zealand sequence as well as those on Sports, Animals, Personalities and Entertainment.
