Biography
The Heathcote County Council was incorporated in 1911 from what remained of the earlier Heathcote Road Board (established in 1863).
The suburb of Opawa left the Heathcote County Council and amalgamated with Christchurch City Council in 1916 with Avonside and the flat portion of St Martins following suit in 1917. The suburb of Bromley left Heathcote County Council in 1923 to amalgamate with Christchurch City Council.
Until a further amalgamation incorporated the Avon and Bromley Ridings within the Christchurch City Council in 1953, the boundaries were situated to the south of the city in the Port Hills and to the east of the city near the Avon-Heathcote Estuary. It was amalgamated with Christchurch City Council in 1989.
