Biography

The East Heathcote Road Board was formed in 1863, with the Canterbury Provincial Road Board Ordinance and was renamed the Heathcote Road Board in 1864. The Heathcote Road Board was incorporated as the Heathcote County Council in 1911. The boundaries were situated to the south of the city in the Port Hills and to the east of the city near the Avon-Heathcote Estuary. The suburbs of Beckenham and Fisherton left the Heathcote Road district and amalgamated with Christchurch City Council in 1907. The suburb of North Linwood followed in 1911. The Heathcote County Council amalgamated with Christchurch City Council in 1989.
