Alfred Hamish Reed was a bookseller, writer and publisher who founded one of New Zealand's first large publishing firms.

Includes some portraits.The letters are from people famous in artistic, literary, philanthropic, political and other spheres, including one from Queen Victoria herself, to the Duke of Wellington. Letters with New Zealand connections are from Samuel Marsden, Julius von Haast, Joseph Banks,Bishop Harper, Thomas Woolner and Lord Lyttelton....

Original letters and postcards from Sir Alfred Hamish Reed to Mrs. Keast, her daughters Annie (later Mrs. Cheyne) and Jessie, and Oliver and Barrie Cheyne. The earlier letters are to the Keasts in Dunedin. Also includes further personal papers of Reed's including printed postcards and newspaper clippings.
