Biography
Librarian Margaret Mahy's first stories for children were published in the New Zealand School Journal, from 1961. In 1969 the first of her many very popular books for children were accepted for publication in both Britain and the United States.

Manuscripts of stories and poems for children, written in a coverless 1961 diary, with some border illustrations, by the author Margaret Mahy.
These stories and poems were later published either as picture books or in anthologies. Includes two biographical articles about the author, one from the New Zealand woman's weekly, Nov. 15, 1976, and the other from a woman's diary.
The diary includes lists of authors and titles, on the last 3 pages.
