Biography
Librarian Margaret Mahy's first stories for children were published in the New Zealand School Journal, from 1961. In 1966 the first of her many very popular books for children were accepted for publication in both Britain and the United States.

Material related to Margaret Mahy's visit to Antarctica as part of the Aritists in Antarctica programme in 1998.
Incudes a talk given to University of Canterbury, a letter inviting Margaret to talk to Diamond Harbour school, and the short stories 'Antarcterella' and 'Pottipher and the Penguin' or 'The Pirate and the Penguin' with some preliminary drawingings.
