Bridge, Arthur Hastings

Arthur Hastings Bridge was the son of Charles and Marion Hastings Bridge, and the grandson of Charles Joseph Bridge and Elizabeth Hastings, early settlers. Arthur Hastings Bridge, who married Catherine Livingstone, trained as a surveyor, working first in Auckland. He returned to Christchurch in 1922, to become a surveyor for the Christchurch City Council. Subsequently he became City Land Surveyor and Town Planning Officer, retiring in 1944.

Legal documents of Arthur Hastings Bridge regarding the building of public rest rooms in Cathedral Square including a printed 1930 case of appeal, originals and carbon copies of documents relating to the case from 1858-1883, and photocopies of Mr. Arthur Bridge's obituary. Also included is a brief description of the case from vol. 3 of A History of Canterbury by William Henry Scotter.
