Biography
In 1850 Charles Joseph Bridge came to Lyttelton on the Randolph. He returned to England in 1854 to marry Elizabeth Frances Hastings. They farmed at what is now Opawa until 1862, when they moved to farm at Southbridge.

The papers of the Bridge and Hastings families include originals and photocopies. There are seven volumes of newspaper clippings, five mostly New Zealand, one overseas (chiefly Europe, 1888-1902) compiled by Marion Bridge, and one, which includes photographs of early Christchurch, compiled by Rev.
