Biography

Chales Mallard married Annie Clarkson in 1908 and they had three children, Grace Annie Mallard, Charles Arthur Mallard and Mollie Clarkson Mallard.

Early in his career Charles worked as a comercial travler then went on to work with his father John Mallard as a bicycle agent at J Mallard & Son from 1912 until 1926.

Charles worked as a sheepfarmer in Kaipoi in the late 1920's and went bankrupt in 1930 after purchasing ‘Silverstream’ Farm at Mayfield. The New Zealand Farmers’ Co-operative Association withdrew their financing of the purchase as they believed he had overpaid for the property.

Section 1 - J Mallard and Son customer Accounts 1912-1924. Section 2 - Household Accounts, appears to refer to the household of Charles Arthur and Annie Mallard. Probably compiled by Annie Mallard in 1934 -1935. Section 3 - Opawa Poultry Farm Accounts 1937 – 1939. Section 4 - Sundry Accounts ?1917 -1924, 1933 – 1936.
