Biography

In 1855 Robert Bishop (uncle of Robert George) and his cousin Charlotte Bishop arrived in Lyttelton on the Caroline Agnes. In 1858 Robert's brother James and his family arrived on the Maori, soon followed by another brother, William, and his family, and a sister, Fanny.

Photocopies of handwritten and typescript original reminiscences of pioneer farming at Papanui and at Pleasant Point by Robert George Bishop. Includes "An account of the Bishop family", a family tree, by Miss R.S. Bishop, and a 1940 letter about Bishop's Road.

Bishop's Road was the continuation of Greers Road between Harewood Road and Sawyers Arms Road and was renamed in 1948 because of confusion with Bishop Street.
