Scope and Contents

Photographs relating to basketball overseas including players, associated people, and games. Subjects include players such as John Jaughen, Denny Gibson, Keith Swagerty, Willis Reed, Mike Eischeid, Milt Sunde, Moses Malone, Simon P. Gourdine, Luis Blas, Cyndy Meserve, Bill Walton, Dennis Followell, Rommie Lewis, Patricia Mickan, Miho Matsuoka, Akeem Olajuwon, Patrick Ewing, Peng Ping, Xu Chunmei, Chien Wei-Chuan, Scottie Peppers, Magic Johnson, members of the Harlem Globetrotters, and Tim Hibbard; basketball games at the National University Gymnasium in Mexico City in 1969, between Japan and South Korea in Tokyo in 1971, between Cuba and South Korea at the 1973 World University Games in Moscow, between University of South Carolina and Seton Hall University in 1974, between Baruch College and the Pratt Institute in 1974, between Olivet Nazarene College and Bethel College in 1978, between Australia and Japan at the 8th World Women Basketball Championship in Seoul, between China and Chinese Taipei at the 12th Asian Basketball Championships, between the Boston Celtics and Real Madrid at the McDonald's Open in 1988, between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Chicago Bulls in 1988;the tallest female basketball player in the Soviet Union, Ulyona Semenova of TTT Riga; Chinese basketball player Chao Liang-Tsai; Mike Storen, American Basketball Association Commissioner; members of the aboriginal women's basketball side with manageress Mrs U. Crosby; David J. Stern, Commissioner of the National Basketball Association; and a fan wearing a basketball over their head. Also included is a group of undated portraits, evidently of French Polynesian basketball players, originally found in 'Basketball: NZ Tour Overseas 1986/Aust in NZ 1987' which do not appear to relate to that file. Edwin Tauraa; Charles Otomimi; Hubert Laney; Freddy Riemer; Victor Nena; Neil Deane; Jean Mariteragi; Tom Tuheiava; Pieppe Villant; Eddy Johnston; Serge Maitere; Stellio Tauraa; Theirry Merault; Henri Tupaia; Charles Tauraa; and Teva Tehei are identified.
