Scope and Contents
Photographs of students, and some staff, participating in classroom activities and events at Avonside Girls High School.
Classroom related activities include woodwork classes during an exchange with Shirley Boys High School; Māori Club performance of an action song; Young Enterprise Scheme (YES) activities; experiments in the Avon River and a school trip to Holy Trinity Church graveyard. Also includes those of competition entrants and winners including the "top form" competition at the end of the school year and of a German class who won an inter-school drama competition.
Fundraising activities include a mufti day to raise money for Southland food victims, helping at a boot sale as part of the Teen Mission movement and the presentation of a mural created by students to the Intellectually Handicapped Children's Society Avonside centre.
Those of the school buildings include the main entrance; the Jobberns wing including extensions; the original school building which was later used as the caretakers house and the honours board at the school in 1941.
Photographs of school staff includes a portrait of Mrs Kath Diehl, the longest serving board member and of Dr G. Jobberns during his retirement presentation as chairman of the board of governors.
