Custodial History
This book belonged to Sir John Hall. It has his bookplate, and he has written his name inside the front cover. From 1908 a date stamp shows the book belonged to the Canterbury Public Library, but a manuscript list of borrowers' names pasted in shows that the book belonged to the Christchurch Mechanics' Institute (whose library formed the nucleus of the Canterbury Public Library's first collection) before this date. The names of the borrowers include Tancred, Cass, Deans, Bowen, Bealey, Mathias and others.
