The papers of Samuel Butler includes a bound manuscript French translation of Erewhon, by Valery Larbaud (1915); Butler's bound manuscript of The fair haven, 2nd. edition (1873); press clippings on Butler, his writing, and Mesopotamia Station (1955-1972); 2 copies of photographs of Mesopotamia in Butler's day (ca. 1860-1864); Butler's licence to depasture stock (1862 and later), and a photocopy of an article about Samuel Butler in New Zealand, by Roger Robinson (no date).

Samuel Shrimpton shipboard log
Typescript copy of original shipboard log of Samuel Shrimpton kept on board the Royal Stuart on her voyage from Plymouth to Lyttelton.
Includes a photocopy of an 1867 account made out to Mr. Shrimpton, from the English School, Valparaiso. Includes some Shrimpton family notes. They were a family of needlemakers in Redditch, Worcestershire.

One photograph is taken looking down onto the roof of the burning building. Four of the photographs have the name Sandra Moore written on the back, and the original envelope has "Property of T. Moore" written on it.
