On spine the album is titled Round the world journey; photographic record, 1889-90, but the photographs are not of the journey. Details of her itinerary are handwritten at front of album.

Helen Wilson made her round the world journey with M.L. Sprigg.

Also includes Florence and Bertha Deal's theses on Oamaru and district. The Deal sister's M.A. theses for the University of New Zealand were published in 1929. Henry Edward Newton papers

Two manuscript journals of Henry Edward Newton. One journal (1934-1935) is an exercise book relating the tramp to the headwaters of the Arawhata River (South Westland) and the climbing of Mount Ionia. The other journal (1930-1935) contains press clippings, a map and other inserts (1906-1951).

There are full notes on this journal inside the front cover written by A.J. Scott in July 1962.

Henry Garmston Bottle papers

Scope and Contents The papers of Henry Garmston Bottle consist of originals and photocopies bound for use of a shipboard diary which records the voyage of the Himalaya from London to Lyttelton, and starts on January 11, 1879, finishing on April 14, 200 miles short of the port of Lyttelton. Also includes a number of letters, 5 of which were written in 1879; the 6th letter in 1884. One letter, undated, is written on part of the diary. The letters tell that he worked on farms near Waimate, then moved to Oamaru...

Henry Hicks diaries

Bound photocopies of the diaries of Henry Hicks. These ship-board diaries cover 1856-1869, but at the back of v. 2 there are some jotted accounts and lists of cargo to 1881. These diaries are written on board a ship, a coastal trader around both islands of New Zealand where Hicks worked as a ship's cook.
