Biography
The Lyttelton Borough Council was inaugurated on 28 May 1868 and replaced the Lyttelton Municipal Council (1861-1867) which had controlled the local affairs of the Borough.
In 1989 the Lyttelton Borough Council, Mt Herbert, Wairewa and Akaroa County Councils merged to become Banks Peninsula District Council.
Also in 1989 the Port Hills Energy Authority was formed as a joint administrative authority for the Lyttelton Borough and Heathcote County Councils.
In 2006 the Banks Peninsula District Council merged with Christchurch City Council.
