George Widdup papers

The papers of George Widdup largely relate to Cheviot Hills Station and Cheviot district and are typescript carbon copies of originals in bound volumes.

Vols. 1 and 3 and part of v. 2 contain William Gerard's diaries (extracts) kept at Cheviot Hills Station, 1858-1873. Vol. 2 contains letters (1926-1928) to George Widdup concerning Cheviot history, including Gore Bay, as well as some church history of the area, and historical notes written by George Widdup.

The author includes a history of the Alexander gold mine, from 1923, reminiscences of life at the Alexander gold mine, in Reefton, Waiuta, Ngahere and other parts of the West Coast, and at Waimatua, in Southland.
