Biography
The Christchurch Drainage Board was constituted by a special Act of Parliament known as “The Christchurch District Drainage Act 1875”, specifically to provide services for the drainage of the City of Christchurch and surrounding districts. Their first meeting was held on the 4th January 1876.
Control of drainage was passed from the Avon Road Board to the Christchurch Drainage Board when it was established in 1876.
The Christchurch Board of Health was initially under the provisions of the Christchurch Drainage Board. Public health stopped being administered by the Drainage Board in 1885.
The Christchurch Drainage Board amalgamated with Christchurch City Council in 1989.
