Biography

The Avon Road Board began in 1862 and was initially under the juristiction of Selwyn County Council. The Avon Road Board amalgamated into the newly formed Waimairi County Council in 1910. Waimairi County Council amalgamated with CCC in 1989.

The Avon Road Board had control of both roading and drainage in areas outside of the Christchurch City Council boundaries until 1876 when the Christchurch Drainage Board was placed in charge of the latter.
