Biography
The Waimairi County was constituted by the Waimairi County Act, 1909, from a portion of Selwyn County. The Riccarton and Avon Road Districts were merged into the newly formed Waimairi County. The juristiction of Waimairi County Council included the Christchurch suburban areas bordering Hagley Park.
The Styx, Belfast, Avon, Papanui, Marshland, Harewood, Fendalton, Middleton and Riccarton ridings were established by a New Zealand Gazette notice in April 1910. Elections for councillors were held on 12 May 1910 with the first meeting of the new Waimairi County Council set down for 17 May 1910.
In 1914 the suburb of North Richmond left Waimairi County and amalgamated with Christchurch City Council and part of Papanui followed suit in 1923.
Upper Riccarton Domain Board was revoked in 1955 with Waimairi County Council and Paparua County Council appointed to administer reserves previously administered by the board.
Marshland Domain Board was taken over by the Waimairi County Council in 1972.
Waimairi County Council became Waimairi District Council in 1982 and the district was then amalgamated with Christchurch City Council in 1989.
Fendalton Domain Board and Waimairi Electric Power Board were part of Waimairi County Council until it's amalgamation with Christchurch City Council in 1989.
