Scope and Contents
Files from the Parks and Gardens Department, later known as the Reserves Department and then the Parks and Recreation Department at Christchurch City Council. Files relate to various sites and projects the department was involved in. Includes files on the Avon River and Heathcote River, Botanic Gardens and wider Hagley Park, Avebury Park, Beckenham Park, Barrington Park, Bottle Lake, Cemeteries, City Mall including fountains, English Park, Horseshoe Lake Reserve, Victoria Park, the Floral Clock, Risingholme and various sites in New Brighton.
Also includes files on park staff, general administration, sports clubs, nurseries and plantings, swimming pools and children's playgrounds. Features those on events such as the Christchurch Floral Parade, visiting circuses and Civic parades. Majority of material covers the time period c1950-1980's. Some publications and newspaper clipplings are also part of this series.
