Biography

The City Works and Planning Department was introduced in 1982 from the former City Engineer's Department. Divisions within the department included the City Engineer and within that there was a Buildings Division, Design Division, Waterworks and Services Division, Streetworks Division and a Traffic and Transportation Division. Under the City Architect was the Architects Division and under the City Planner was the Town Planning Division and Administration Division.

Some of the functions from the City Works and Planning Department became part of the Technical Services Group following the 1989 amalgamation which divided the Council's functions across a new 'Group' structure.

Design Services, Water Supply, Traffic Management and Roading all became part of the Technical Services Group. Planning Policy and Administration and Building Control became part of the Development Group.
